John Foxx – Endlessly (12″)

Media_http1bpblogspot_hpdqf

A great response to the John Foxx stuff I’ve posted. Here is the 1983 release of “Endlessly”, a little bit less psychedelic than it’s previous incarnation from 1982.. This is another big Zeus B Held loooong remix that builds and builds very nicely. Heavy Beatles influences abound. Also you get an extended version of the B-side “A Kind Of Wave” which has a huge bass synth sound!!! Gareth Jones was an engineer on both.

Skeletal Family – Promised Land (12″)

More Goth tinged , female fronted tunes for you with Yorkshire’s Skeletal Family. One of those gems I loved to rediscover. Support act to Sisters Of Mercy they certainly had the image and loyal fanbase and in 2009 recently reformed (but split soon after)

This was the original release back in 1983 , you get the extended version of the title track , a saxophone tinged cover of “Stand By Me” !!! and the synthy “Just A Friend”

Bill Nelson – Banal (12″)

Media_http2bpblogspot_wqeqx
More Nelson !! This is from the late 70’s – So another one has sneaked into the 80’s blog (it was realised in 1981) and it is another twelve inch which has no different versions just more, additional tracks. You get the single version of “Banal” (a cracking guitar solo) “Turn to Fiction” – A Red Noise track , “Her’s is Lush Situation” and the playful, John Leckie produced, “Mr Magnetism Himself” Simply ahead of his time!!!

Bill Nelson – Flaming Desire And Other Passions (E.P)

Okay I have held back quite a long time but I have succumbed ! Bill Nelson is one of my favourite solo artists of the 80’s and this track , first heard on John Peel, was to send me in a collecting frenzy . I have got a lot of his work and it’s good to see him still going strong !

I missed him playing in Manchester a few years ago and have regretted ever since. This release, his first E.P, has the rare, long version of “Flaming Desire” plus some other misc tracks “Narcosis” , “Flesh”, “The Passion”- a guitary instrumental, “The Burning Question”, “He And Sleep Were Brothers” and “Haunting In My Head” a great introduction to Nelson’s work at the time.

Bill Nelson – Savage Gestures For Charm’s Sake

Media_http2bpblogspot_icdwb
A great cover btw , this self produced mini instrumental album crept out in 1983 and was , I think, too avant garde for his new league of fans. It was supposed to be surreal , “Portrait Of Jan With Moon And Stars” shows off Nelson’s E-Bow guitar to dreamy effect. Simple electronica with oriental flavourings.

The Associates – Party Fears Two (12″)

Media_http3bpblogspot_ftmek
Found on most Alternative 80’s compilations , here in its much better extended version. I really liked rediscovering the flipside “Its Better This Way” , just as mad !!! Sorry about the long silences on this but its how The Associates recorded it!!
Pure , weird , inventive 80’s Pop !!

*Update* God I didn’t write much back in the day!!!

Bizz Nizz – Don’t Miss The Partyline (12″)

Media_http4bpblogspot_ryiwz

Belgium New Beat was around in the late 80’s and morphed into more dance orientated stuff. The distinctive “Don’t Miss The Partyline” took time to become a hit. The duo behind it went on to form the prolific 2 Unlimited. It does sound a bit dated with some cheesy rapping and the crowd noise on the “Incrowed Mix” (sic) and the more electronic “Euro Mix” seems to plod along. This took a while to become a hit , originally out in 1989.
