Lo Goes High – FLAC – Volume 2 (Breakfast Club, Den Harrow, George Duke, Johnny Clegg & Savuka, Marianne Rosenberg, Miguel Bosé) + Associated Re-ups and Links.

More semi-obscure stuff in wonderful FLAC, just the 6 tracks

Breakfast Club – Never Be The Same (The Shep Pettibone Mix)

As 80’s as apple pie.

Big synths sounds, funk guitar and sax. From ’87 and with edits by Junior Vasquez.

Den Harrow – Bad Boy

From 1986 and probably the worse lyrics so far this year. Corinne Sauvage provides the backing vocals. Yes it’s all about masturbation!

Italo Disco from Stefano Zandri (visually) and arranged, produced and written by Miki Chieregato and Roberto Turatti

It’s loud and proud ! More Italo Disco.

More below!

George Duke – Thief In The Night

Well this quite meaty in a mid -80’s funk sort of a way. From 1985 and a bit of Rock (guitar from Steve Lukather) aand funk on this track remixed by Reggie Thompson. Planty of changes and with a decent bassline (Moog). All hail the whistle synth.

Duke was in fact a member of Frank Zappa’s band.

Johnny Clegg & Savuka – Scatterlings Of Africa

Not really a fan of this type of World Music, a bit tokenistic. Light and poppy. Cashing on the interest that Paul Simon started. Quite an overactive drum machine.

Line -up

  • Bass Guitar, Backing Vocals – Jabu Mabuso*
  • Lead Vocals, Guitar – Johnny Clegg
  • Drums, Percussion, Backing Vocals – Derek De Beer
  • Keyboards, Backing Vocals – Steve Mabuso*
  • Keyboards, Saxophone, Flute – Keith Hutchinson
  • Percussion – Dudu Zulu

Popular mind and he was from South Africa but not my cup of tea.

Marianne Rosenberg – Get Up And Dance (Special Remix)

From 1990 and German singer gets all dancefied on this PSB similar track. Remixed by Fischerman’s Friend on the production of veteran Harald Steinhauer. Some interesting parts including a Spanish guitar interlude.

Miguel Bosé – Lay Down On Me (Extended)

From 1987 and more Euro Dance this time from Spanish Singer-songwriter and Actor, Bosé.

Written by a whole football team of people and produced by Mike Mansfield. A deep croon over a very sample heavy street beat. Helping Mansfield was Rob Fisher (Climie Fisher) on keyboards. Half sung in Spanish.

All hail the flugelhorn solo from Chris Smith Jnr. (The Wilsations)
