VARIOUS – SELECT MIX – HOT TRACKS PRESENTS… THE HOT CLASSICS (CD 6)

Number 6 (three to go) on this nostalgic trip through 70’s Disco. Pure mixes with minimal gimmicks.

Starting with a 1978 track showcasing the amazing voice of Sharon Ridley. A soulful mid-pacer, a late nighter.

Moving to 1980 and Shalamar with that great disco bass. originally produced by Leon Sylvers. 1977 and The Emotions on another rare cut, like the live feel to the production.

Not heard a Rick James Disco mix, this has been given a modern tweak, still gets his funk through. Like the more electronic “Funk Train” by Moroder band, Munich Machine- more cowbell and a great mix with all the extra disco snippets !!

The 80’s curveball fits quite well with Hartman’s “Instant Replay” – doesn’t get played as much as it should do.

Synth bass on the Esther Phillips remix, not the best as it stumbles about as it tries to modernise the 1975 classic !!

Love the obscure Cut Class track! Powerful vocals of Ortheia Barnes and Mildred Vaney and a HiNRG feel. This feels like the Patrick Cowley mix and it’s long at over 12 minutes. Interesting (and epic) synth breakdown halfway through.

A Beat Medley closes which is more Street Beats and even has Hip Hop scratching than Disco – there was the Curveball!! Nice extra!
