A long lost 80’s synth band that many UK listeners missed out on. From Canada and released on WEA Music Of Canada label I really did not hear or knew anything about them before the internet. They supported both Depeche Mode and Duran Duran when they toured stateside.
The band was formed in 1981 in Vancouver, and originally consisted of vocalist Dale Martindale, guitarist Don Gordon (later of Numb), synth players Joe Vizvary and Glen Nelson, bassist Gary Smith and percussionist Kevin Crompton (better known as cEvin Key and later of Skinny Puppy, David Ogilvie was an engineer on this release). From 1983, the sound is crystal clear with a good mix of tracks. The singer reminds me a bit of Pete Murphy (Bauhaus) and the subject matter looks towards the scene that was happening in Europe , the instrumental “For Germans” is a good stab at a Canadian Kaftwerk. “Just Like You” has lots of arpeggio and their debut “hit”, “Lust For Love”, is here but my fave is the very 80’s themed “Masks” – the performance is from a live TV show. Ahhhhhhhh………The synths!!!!
