Blank & Jones – So80s (Soeighties) 8 (CD Rip)

Silver Disc Sunday !

Back on it with this Blank & Jones and back with some commercial cuts.

Starting with the 13 mins + Monogamy mix which is like 4 or 5 songs in one the way it progresses.

Most of the tracks have appeared on the blog at one time or the other so it’s a bit of a one stop shop, grab and go. I have the Robert De Niro twelve as I played it last month so that needs to go in my “To Rip” box. A good representation of Bananarama (Version 1) Another thing that I have played that is not on here is Simple Minds , “All The Things She Said” (and it is a cracker!) – I’m going to have to take a week off work but school Summer Holidays beckon to get rid of the backlog!

Wet Wet Wet are not, with the percussive build it ain’t a bad mix. TFF’s track is an exclusive version on here, extending the UK 12″. The Adventures is not on here from CD 1. Again another cracker of a 12″, melodic and spiced up with the 12″. Great band from Belfast.

Need to get off that Cure track, again a superb 12″ remixed by François Kevorkian and Ron St. Germain although it maybe a little long.

“Valerie”, the shortest track and not on the blog. Bollocks this is an exclusive remix, it was only really out on 7″ with the mix by Tom Lord-Alge – so easy to pick up.

With Blank & Jones there is always a Cretu track, “Gambit” see’s him going into Yello territory and with a bit of AOR.

I forgot what an endurance listening to that Ultravox track was. quite radical for them at the time.

Curveball of the week was the inclusion of a Bad Manners track from 1985 with a remix by Steve Thompson & Michael Barbiero providing the Ska / Dance beats. Brass and Buster and Beautiful.

Jocelyn Brown’s gives up some Freestyle and then drops into that familiar track. Essential.

Another highlight is the Prefab Sprout style of “Love Parade” by Dream Academy. A perfect Summer track.

Scritti Politti include a mix I’m not familiar with, featuring Ranking Ann on toasting. Need this too! Mixed by Julian Mendelsohn.
