KMFDM – Rules + Re-ups (US 12″)

So a bit of Marmite band looking at the (few) reactions on this blog. I’m not really going to defend the band. I love the sleeves and the whole image but they are a bit of a one trick pony. What ever they are doing they have lasted sine 1984, their last album was this years “Hyëna.” So good luck to them, their back catalogue is vast!

Never to be shy of a remix this has three! All from the album, “Xtort”(their 8th by then!)

Hold on to your hats for the Industrial Breakbeat of “Son Of A Gun” remixed by frontman Sasha Konietzko and Chris Shepard (Excessive Force) A 3 and half minute ride, crashing through the midnight city. Guitars are fully turned up

“Inane” (remixed by Chris Flam (CEO of NYC’s Mindswerve) and band member En Esch) works on the heavy bass sequencer and complex beats, guitars are put in the background and the vocals subdued. More IDM than Industrial. I think the band are called KMFDM.

“Rules” has a bit of Trance Techno vibe at the start. Then goes into a bit of unexpected Big Band Swing!! The track is a weird blend with the soulful female vocals. REMIX OF THE MONTH – even if you don’t like the band.

  1. KMFDM may be a one trick pony, but it’s a good trick that I love to listen to! They aren’t afraid of self promotion in their songs either. I feel that their sound got better once En-Esch left the band.
