Grandmaster Melle Mel And The Furious Five – We Don’t Work For Free (US 12″)

Not Prince.

From 1984 and funk from this posse, funky and catchy with a small rap in the middle. Very curious.

Produced by label stalwarts, Clayton Savage (who wrote it and did the lead vocals) and Sylvia Robinson and from the debut album.

The Instrumental is not an instrumental, starting with the rap and then goes into a type of a Summery dub mix with some quite heavy guitar. P-Funk.

  1. 1984, so this is one of the much later reincarnations/ line-ups of the Furious 4 [Then 5]…… I have a Flash set from 1978 at the Audubon Ballroom, and he was at it even earlier than that.

Anyhoo, funky wee number no doubt. Thanks as ever.
