Siouxsie & The Banshees – Peek-A-Boo + Re-up (12″)

From 1988 and the “Big Spender Mix” of “Peek-A-Boo” see’s the band explore beats and samples with Mike Hedges. Weird arrangements of brass, accordion, heavy blasts of guitar and sampled orchestra. “Big Spender” does get sung too.

“Catwalk” is a quirky semi-instrumental with deliberately chopped production. Just the title being hissed with some cat samples.

“False Face” rock on with a Tribal drums and some effects on the bass guitar. A nod back to their old sound but from nowhere comes some boogie piano.

The other 12″ is here

  1. Thanks for the “Silver Dollar Mix” re-up. seem to have missed that the first time. I do like the random reups feature here!

  2. I was lucky to have found a Canadian CD5 [while in Toronto] of “Peek-A-Boo” with the 7″, both B-sides [excellent ones, too!] and the “Silver Dollar” and “Big Spender” remixes. Such an atypical Siouxsie + The Banshees single this was! It sounded like nothing else out there at the time. I always felt that the B-sides were perhaps influenced by the 60s Batman TV show! I’ll bet they were fans. Making their cinematic Batman single, “Face To Face” almost a fait accompli four years later. I still need the “Stockhausen and Waterphone Mix” on the UK 12″ which is scarce over here.

  3. Oddly I didn’t have this mix either. That said I always thought this was one of the odd and beautiful songs ever recreated. Like Johnny Cash making a song his own, Siouxsie just owns this cover (and I am so old I remember my grandmother using the phrase). This version seems to allow more breath between the twists and turns, almost isolating the complexities, serving the giblets one at a time in ghoulish fashion.

    Thanks Lo

  4. I sent over all the “Peek – A -Boo” 12”s UK & US ones plus a UK promo mix one. included is the Stockhausen and Waterphone Mix (instrumental maybe !)

      1. Researched it, they should be in the 12/21/2020 (21/12/2020) send mixed decades a big gift. Probably had too much going on and lost track of things.
