Green Gartside has always like to explore different genres and here we have him going into Hip Hop with this 1999 release. Featuring NYC Rapper, Mos Def on vocals / rap.
From the LP “Anomie and Bonhomie” and featured Wendy Melvolin of Prince and the Revolution on guitar, Abe Laboriel jr on drums and Meshell Ndegeocello on bass.
NYC Producer Psycho Les (Lester Fernandez) strips it back on the final mix, tightening the sounds and beats. Featuring Lee Majors (Babe-B-Face Kaos) Baccharach’s “The Look Of Love” being alluded to.
The B-side feature Lee Majors and Mos Def doing a rap duet with Green adding the soulful vocals. Rolls along nicely.

Dovetailing nicely, Mike B has shared the US Promo 12″ with us. With additional mixes by Brooklyn’s Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Pete Rock (as well as Psycho Les’s two mixes).
Hip Hop Beats and some scratching keep this blend of Gartside’s soft vocals and rap interesting. The instrumentals are also included, all a bit repetitive and simple to be honest, just a groove.
