Early Nick Cave from The Birthday Party (1983). In the Swamp Rock style that Cave developed into his solo career. When I was a Mute Records collector I remember seeing Birthday Party vinyl, I asked for a listen of one and immediately put it back in the rack, Mute ??
Now I can appreciate melancholia and darkness so this was nice to have another listen. The simple quartet of bass – Tracy Pew, drums – Mick Harvey and guitar – Rowland S. Howard.
“Mutiny In Heaven” has crazed lyrics (plenty of swearing) with added extra noise to the mix. Dirty Blues Rock! All about heroin.
“Swampland” is another deranged rocker, whilst sleaze returns on the seedy, “Say A Spell.”
