Carmel ‎– Sally (12″)

You learn things when you do some research, here’s 2 ? Carmel was not just the singers name but the name of a band hailing from Manchester. Singer/songwriter Carmel McCourt does have a fantastic voice, I remember hearing “Bad Day” and thinking Wow! The band formed in Manchester when two students, Carmel McCourt and bass player Jim Parris got together with drummer Gerry Darby. (Parris’ cousin) They provided the jazzy backing to accompany THAT voice.

This was off the album, “The Falling” and was produced by Hugh Jones. It was the start of their success in France and Europe. The track is quite up tempo with the Kick Horns providing the Swing factor. It’s backed by a stripped down version with added electronic elements. A bonus track, recorded in a Church in Didsbury, comprises of just voice and Double Bass, gospel perfection
