The Police ‎– Don’t Stand So Close To Me ’86 (US 12″)

Teacher / Pupil relationships….Mmmm quite an awkward subject matter in these modern times.

Their last official single and a prelude to The Greatest Hits package “Every Breath You Take – The Singles”. Probably the most synthy Police track, even on the Howard Grey 1980 original. The ’86 version by Laurie Latham , ramps the guitars up and alters the chorus, making it more melancholic and mature. I do like it better than the original.

The Dance Mix goes for an even different vibe. Very synthy and a great Andy Summer’s guitar solo in full. The definite version.

As a little bonus their is a live version from an unidentified concert. any ideas Police fans ?

  1. Candidate for “Worse use of a song in a commercial ever”. Right Guard deodorant, if i remember. Is the song is not about bad body odour?
