Various ‎– Methods Of Dance (Vinyl LP)

Not had an album for a while, and what an album this is….

Cutting edge stuff from December 1981 from artists who were on Virgin Records.

They’ll all here , kicking off with an early version of “Groove Thang,” from the cassette “Music For Stowaways” by B.E.F. they probably felt bad including 2 tracks by the same band on a compilation.

The 7″ version of “Love Song” just shows how synth Simple Minds were. A great mix of guitar and electronics.

Some late Magazine is next from the album, ‘Magic, Murder and the Weather’. Mutant funk at it’s finest.

Japan have the 12″ version of “The Art Of Parties” with that mesmeric rhythm section and the extended ending.

Finally it is the fabled Human League “Do Or Die” exclusive Dub mix that most people would like to listen to. Not too far removed from the “Dare” version with the vocals removed until the breakdown then, oh indeed, it’s so dub reggae and then some!! Rushent at his very best.

  1. More incredible stuff that YOU CAN’T BUY ANYWHERE! Thanks for sharing this “I’m sure it’s under copyright, but just a shame it’s not available anywhere”. That remix is pretty cool.

  2. This is an all time best peek into the awesome world of 1981. My favorite year of music on my favorite label at the time! I collected every one of these bands with the exception of D.A.F. and I’ve been intending to collect them for 39 years! It’ll happen one day. This album was the pet project of Virgin A+R’s Ross Stapleton. He was the man who signed Simple Minds to Virgin at exactly the right time! He was also very tight with Heaven 17.
