Dexy’s Midnight Runners & The Emerald Express ‎– Come On Eileen (US 12″)

BOOM here it is! One of the biggest songs of the 80’s and one I really detest. Victim of too many listens and too many Weddings. Birthdays etc… It has to be on here or this would not be an 80’s vinyl blog.

The Emerald Express comprised of fiddle players Helen O’Hara (I think she’s the girl on the cover) and Steve Brennan.

The song was written by Kevin Rowland, Jim Paterson and Billy Adams; it was produced by Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley. I’m not adding anymore info about this song from 1982, there is enough out there already.

I do like the ska feel to the B-side “Let’s Make This Precious”, a great party track. Another bonus is the cover of MFSB song “T.S.O.P.” from 1973. Groovy horns as well as the violin’s accompany this track with few vocals.

  1. Head over to You Tube, find the ITV 80’s show No.73, season 2 episode 7, and see Dexy’s do this live in a living room. If you ever wondered how many gypsies you could fit in a living room, this might be your answer.
I will say it’s almost note for note perfect though!
Oh, maybe a reup just for the hell of it?

    1. Easier if I put the link:

Also a bit of Celtic Soul Brothers at the end.
Try to ignore the antics of Sandi “was she ever young?” Toksvig if you can.
