Heaven 17 ‎– Crushed By The Wheels Of Industry (US 12″)

Probably the funkiest track from Heaven 17, especially on the less synthy “Industrial Mix” (the synths come in after 4 mins) and just a little bit of “Play To Win” towards the end.

Not too different from the UK release the Dub Mix is new to my ears. In album form and also in Dub form. The Dub mixes really those cement slabs by Greg Walsh to great effect, as well as the extra piano by Nick Plytas and free form bass. And more “Play To Win”

The bass is great but is it sampled or played??? I think it is the same Josh Wilson who played on “Penthouse and Pavement”

  1. Yeah, the amazing John Wilson was the bassist on the second album as well. This is always my favorite song off of “The Luxury Gap” as it had an unbeatable polemic thrust mated with powerful synth-funk. It’s why we love H17! And the use of a sampler to grab those paving stones is from the era where sampling still had artistic promise, but that would not last for long. I have the UK 7″/12″ as well as this USP 12″. Gotta have it all!
