Zerra One – The Domino Effect (Vinyl LP)

Zerra One, from Northern Ireland, had burst onto the New Wave / Alt. Rock scene in 1984. Supporting some big names on tours (I saw them support Ultravox back in 1986 where this LP was being promoted – you got a free 12″ which included the lead track “Rescue Me”)

Anthemic and with distinct, raspy vocals courtesy of frontman, writer and producer Paul Bell. The line-up was Bassist – Eamo Doyle, Gavin Harrison (King Crimson, Porcupine Tree) – drums, Anthony Drennan – guitar. It had a ton of money thrown at it , with main producer being Barry Blue, whilst some of the tracks had Tim Palmer at the controls. Never sure about the female backing vocals that seem to smooth out the rockier tracks but it is a solid album, steeped in the mid -80’s sound. Personal favourite and album closer “Heaven” sounds like a hybrid of OMD and Simple Minds
