Silly Sunday Song 40 – Techno Twins ‎– Falling In Love Again (12″)

The original version from 1981 of this weird cover from the 1930 German song composed by Friedrich Hollander from the film “The Blue Angel” starring Marlene Dietrich . Given a camp electronic work out by Bev Sage and Steve Fairnie in this extended 12″ version. Looking at the promo vid I don’t think they were going for the Novelty Hit Record, just a bit of alternative fun. The re-release , remixed version from 1982 is over here;

Marlene Dietrich eat your heart out, a bit of a homage in the vocals. Lovely analog synth bass line.

The B-side is dark and really reminds me of early Goldfrapp, piano and vocal effects, a moody bit of minimal coldwave.

  1. I have a copy of the 7″ edit on Ronco’s “Hits! Hits! Hits!” compilation from 1981. Not a bad stab at the New Wave Cover Version® with a hint of electronic novelty to the tune. I’d be interesting in hearing more from this duo. It was miles and miles better than Taco’s comparable stab at “Puttin’ On The Ritz” the next year!! Speaking of Taco, they guy has five albums… but seven compilations! Make them stop!!
