Elton John – Passengers (12″)

From 1984 and with a remix by Julian Mendelsohn Elton goes all World music with the annoyingly catchy “Passengers” with it’s call and response chorus part and apartheid theme.

This song takes its melody from South African 1960;s artist by Phineas Mkhize and his track “Isonto Lezayoni.” Mendelsohn adds some extra bits to the 12.”

The B-side has 2 tracks from 1982. The classic and a personal favourite “Blue Eyes” and the prog rock sounding “Lonely Boy” (it was probably recorded in 1979) featuring Nigel Olsson\Alvin Taylor (Drums), Dee Murray \Reggie McBride (Bass), Steve Wrather\ Richie Zito (Guitar) Very 10cc to my old ears.

  1. A flippantly fun track. I wonder why it hasn’t been included on any of his collections?
