Malcolm McLaren ‎– Carmen (12″)

The follow up to Madame Butterfly as Mclaren tries to bring high-brow opera to the masses via a shed load of Fairlight sampler’s and hip-hop beats. Released in 1984 and with copious sleeve notes containing a synopsis this was obviously to match the pretense off ZTT. Produced with Robbie Kilgore and the A side mixed by New York studio wizard, Bradshaw Leigh including a guest rap/vocal from Angela Brown/Stone and mezzo-soprano vocalist, Valerie Walters. The B-side is a instrumental remix by Ben Allen using more samples. A bonus is the funk rendition of Mozart’s “Tu Tu Piccolo” from the fabulous  mini album “Fans” that I still have on cassette!!
