Fleshtones – Roman Gods (US 12″)

Classic Garage Rock from 1981 from the legendary New York band, The Fleshtones. Fronted by Peter Zaremba armed with his Farfisa Organ.

In 1980 they got signed to I.R.S. Records (R.E.M., The Go-Go’s) and worked with producers Richard Mazda and Richard Gottehrer. This was the title track off their debut album.

The band themselves give the track a thorough remix job, extending to just over 7 minutes. The bass really makes it and the call and response vocals. A superb, uber-cool mix.

B-sides include the harmonica led instrumental and album track, “Chinese Kitchen” – having that distinct fuzztone effect on the guitar. And a cover of Allen Toussaint’s “Ride Your Pony” originally performed by Lee Dorsey.

  1. I know the tune well, but had never seen this fantastic clip before – thanks for sharing.
