Stevie Wonder ‎– Part-Time Lover (US 12″)

A later one from Stevie, 1985 in fact from his album “In Square Circle”. Here in the nicely extended version, an “awesome 8 mins 20 seconds” according to the sleeve mixed by the man himself. Synths and drum machines over soulful/gospel backing vocals. The sequencers do sound a bit dated and thin.

Fun Fact : The song featured R&B singer Luther Vandross humming at the end of Stevie’s verses and on backing vocals in addition to Wonder’s ex-wife and fellow singer-songwriter Syreeta Wright and Philip Bailey of R&B/funk band Earth, Wind and Fire.

Every time I listen to this I keep hearing Hall & Oates’ “Maneater” or “You Can’t Hurry Love” covered by Phil Collins.
