Apollonia – Mismatch (US 12″)

Apollonia (Patricia Kotero) was a Prince protégé. (she appeared with him in “Purple Rain”) She released just one album and a handful of singles, this being her final one. More of an actress than a singer this is very Janet Jackson sounding, being released in 1989 it has an early house groove. Kevin Saunderson and Ben Grosse remixed the main “Hand In Glove” mix and the tougher “Motor City” mix. A touch repetitive. The pick of the mixes is the “Reflective mix” by Alan Gregorie and François Kevorkian, just think about the song “What have you done for me lately?” 🙂 The B-side is very Prince-like, funky and using the Minneapolis sound, how high pitched is that voice ?
