New to me and probably a Cold Wave classic, this is my record of the week from the mysterious and short-lived solo career of Filipino, Juan Ignacio Trápaga. Who fronted 70’s Australian New Wave band, Jimmy And The Boys and then went on to be in the Pop Band, Pardon Me Boys, who did swing jazz!!
From 1982 and with a rather splendid remix by M and M (John Morales & Sergio Munzibai) was written by the young Aussie musician , Steve Kilbey , who went on to have a successful career in the late 80’s as part of The Church.
“Like A Ghost” is a bit of synth pop gem and doesn’t sound that dated for 1982.The radio frequency-tuning-in-sound during the chorus that makes it, very Thomas Dolby! The remix is suitably beefed up and gets rid of the radio tuning in favour of a more Human League bass line.
“Seductive Ways” is more harder edge and ends with a great synth solo, shame about the phased production.
“It’s No Reason” has a psychedelic feel to it, with a Sitar and female backing vocals.
