Sigue Sigue Sputnik – 1984 Flaunt It, Demos + More (Vinyl LP)

So Mike posted this along with all the other featured SSS twelves. This was released in 2007 as a limited edition, purple vinyl with a free patch and badge. It contains a mixture of early demos and outakes. All quite raw, primitive and punk (what they wanted to sound like) and no samples, “Teenage Thunder” is of particularly wonky quality. Highlights include a more recent release, an excellent covers of Soft Cell’s “Memorabilia” and Madonna’s “Ray Of Light”

(I’m sure follow, and mega fan, Grebo will fill us in with more details!)

  1. $34 on discogs. Memorabilia is excellent. Thanks for sharing it.

  2. A great comp! Has been released in various guises through the years (often as “The Second Generation”), some versions add their cover of Bowie’s “Rebel Rebel”. Bowie, of course, famously returned the favour during his REALITY days ( ) which still blows my mind.

The quality is surprisingly great on the demos, I think Moroder already had his hand on them by this point. There used to be a lot of Sputnik demos online, a lot of pre-vocal Moroder versions with more samples and just craziness. If I can find them, I will try and post. In the meantime, be sure and check out their demos on Soundcloud ( ), there’s some gold there too (and some fools gold as well, but really what can you expect…).

One last thing (which I should have mentioned whilst talking SUCCESS) – there exists a track by the band which has only ever been released ONCE, on the 1988 clear-case SUCCESS cd-single. “THE LAST TEMPTATION OF SPUTNIK”. Although released as a throwaway on a single from their 2nd album, it’s very obviously more in tune with the debut FLAUNT IT. And it deserves love. ( so give it a squeeze here ).

I really do adore this site, you guys rock.

  3. Can you PLEASE reup this gem and any other SSS demo or rarity! I have been looking for their demos for a while!
Unless there is a good Punk Tribute to SSS out there somehwere!

  4. just found this little piece of heaven: 1984 Demos
But PLEASE still reup the above disc and whatever else you find

  5. Please re-up!!

  6. Still absolutely love this band, as you already know! I am always surprised that there hasn’t been a proper PUNK tribute to this band (even if it were by themselves … without any of the samples) …. just makes total sense.
