Go West – The King Is Dead (12″)

Never sure of live releases; I remember Depeche Mode bringing out a live version of the album “Songs Of Faith And Devotion” as if to say “looked what you missed” as they rung out the last they could from a great album.

So this sees Go West showcasing their live band at the, then “Big Venue”,  Hammersmith Odeon and releasing this in 1987. Amongst the musicians are Jaz Lochrie (Bass) who was in Big Company, Jimmy Copley (drums) who was in Manfred Mann’s Earth Band, Alan Murphy (guitar) Ex-Scritti Politti.

The song itself is a gem, an amazing piano intro on this lazy soulful ballad. A few live renditions of previous hits “Don’t Look Down” and “Call Me” I’m overdosed on 80’s keyboards and yodeling from Peter Cox !!!
