Shona Laing – (Glad I’m) Not A Kennedy (12″)

From 1987 and some Catholic electropop with chamber orchestra synths from New Zealand’s Shona Laing. Quite topical at the moment……presidential assassination. It was actually released in 1985, and re-released in 1987.

Martin Rushent provides a few remixes over a vocal that is somewhere between Suzanne Vega and The Cranberries. Big synth bass and bright synth leads, also included are some sound bites from JFK.

B-side “Resurrection” is more sparkling synthpop with some ear grating drum machine, bass guitar and reggae guitar licks. Joan As A Policewoman, Little Boots and Roisin Murphy should have a listen.

  1. New one for me. Great track. Thanks

  2. There were two other tracks off that album (South) that were as good, if not better: Drive Baby Drive and Soviet Snow. I don’t think they’d be remixable, but I didn’t see her as a remix artist. I think I’m going to have to bookmark so I don’t lose my place. You are seriously eclectic and have great taste!
