D.O.S.E Featuring Mark E Smith ‎– Plug Myself In (The Swallow It Mixes) (12″)

Mark E Smith does Big Beat. From 1996 and aided and abetted by Simon Spencer (a.k.a.” Dodo Bassburger”) and Johnny Jay. Various remixes here but all include the unique warble of Smith and his stream of consciousness lyrics. Neil Claxton (Urban Cookie Crew, Mint Royale) provides a couple as The Missing Link. The Dirty Mix is the best if you are after Smith’s deranged vocal delivery. The Symphonic mix is more a progressive house track. While 3 over 3 do a dark and broody Trip hop with some additional breakbeats thrown in. Bassburger’s own mix borders on industrial, with some heavy duty beats. I loved the idea it came out on a subsidiary of PWL records, Pete Waterman again supporting local music and recorded at his headquarters in Manchester.
