Rumours that these guys may be touring, if so I’ll be front of the queue. From 1994 and off the album “Zebra” (this is a day shy of it’s 22nd Anniversary!), finds the duo going into more techno territory with African rhythms and touches of acid house. All the usual Yello ingredients are here, strangled saxophone, obscure lyrics, cinematic synths. This is probably one of their quickest tracks Retracing some old ground with recurring themes, a bit of “Jungle Bill” a touch of “The Race” here.
Two remixers get a go at adding their flavours to the pot. British house act, Fluke, remix the first 3 tracks, progressive house meets tribal with a massive bass sound, just like a Fluke track funny enough! Plutone, a German Techno duo, surprisingly don’t provide full, techno remixes. The subtle “In Silence” and the rhythmic “Drummers Mix” stick to the sound blueprint. Wedged in between we have Boris Blank’s “Premix” adding more chaos to the original.
My favourite mix is the pure synth sounds of the mellow “In Silence”Beautiful and chilled.
