The Cry – The Way You Move (12″)

A few obscure 80’s bands today.

The Cry was a short-lived band project by ex- Fischer Z frontman, John Watts. I quite liked Fischer Z, a bit of a cult new wave band, their album “Going Deaf For A Living” (from 1980) is well worth a quirky listen.

Included in the line-up was the original Fischer Z bassist, David Graham. Joining him was Mike Benn and Theo Thunder (the drummer perhaps?) What you get it sleek 80’s New Wave with a horn section and female backing vocals, (why oh why?) more Springsteen’s New Jersey than Watt’s Harrow. Produced with Richard Manwaring it is far too slick and polished, the B-side is much more in the style with Fischer Z, not a bad track at all with its Talking Heads style.

  1. djjedredy,

I’ll have to check this out. Always liked Fischer-Z and that particular album you mentioned, “So Long” (believe that was the hit) was a big hit Down Under!!

    1. It’s a great track, as mentioned in the post B-side is much better!
