Before I all go dark and alternative I’ll post this cover from Scottish duo, Jill Bryson and Rose McDowall. from 1985 and a synthpop remake that has just a smattering of darkness, they even manage to get the legendary Larry Adler to play harmonica on it. Produced by Clive Langer and Colin Fairley it has a strings by the late English composer, David Bedford. The extended version that sounds like Erasure in places but balances everything out, it should of been a much bigger hit. The 2 b-sides are a lot darker. “Black Taxi” is from a Janice Long Radio 1 session, coldwave with minimal and weird synth noises. “Being Cold” (an album track) has a string arrangement (and I guess more Mr Adler ?) on a track produced by David Motion all about the afterlife.
