Kid Creole & The Coconuts ‎– The Lifeboat Party (12″)

A bit of a legend is old August Darnell, founder of the band, writer and producer he has kept his tongue firmly in his cheek for over 4 decades. The Coconuts are fun, the Madness of Latino Pop. A single off the album “Doppelganger” from 1983.

This has added drum machine and bongoes over the jazzy chords on the remix by Michael H Brauer and Stephen Street (before he went on to work with The Smiths)

B-sides include the hilarious “Gina Gina” an album track from 1981 and another Brauer remix of previous single, “There’s Something Wrong In Paradise.”

Fun Fun Fun!

  1. If there’s such a thing as a guilty pleasure then August Darnell is mine. This must be an import 12″ as mine has different b sides. Lifeboat Party was the opener on the 83 tour and was sang by “bongo” Eddie live who sadly passed away recently and was the final member of the original touring band. I’ve been to over a thousand gigs and this was the first song played at my first gig!
