Level 42 – Tracie (12″)

From 1989 and a song off their 1988 album, “Staring At The Sun.” Jointly produced with Wally Badarou and Julian Mendelsohn this seemed to be the final nail in the coffin of their popularity. I don’t think it is that bad, a definite shift to a more soulful sound and less jazz/funk with a good, Mendelsohn extended mix. A great riff the  guitarist on this track was the late, great Alan Murphy, who also played for Go West, Kate Bush etc..  “Three Words” is, I think, a remix from the same album with Mike Lindup on vocals, very light and sugary.

  1. Thanks for all the great audio goodies from the past week. Great to see Bob Geldof Madness Bruce Hornsby and Culture Club in the mix. I havent heard some of those since the 80s. Thanks 🙂

    1. It’s been commercial 80’s week, maybe a little more obscure next week.

  2. Unusually, it was Gary Husband, the drummer, who wrote this track, wasn’t it? But, yes, it is a fairly weak song, as was Take a Look. They blew it on this album, man!
