Bob Geldof – This Is The World Calling (US 12″)

Commercial 80’s continue….

Poor old Sir Bob Geldof, he’s been a bit unlucky with his life and with his solo career. This was one of his few hits after The Boomtown Rats broke up. From 1986 and Mr Band Aid recruited producer David A. Stewart, Bob Clearmountain and Rupert Hine for the mixes on this slice of eco-AOR. Female vocals on the song provided by Annie Lennox, Alison Moyet, and Maria McKee and you can hear them on the extended version! The “Rupert Hine” extended mix is musically very pleasant, Big Country guitars, huge drums and synths, its just when he starts singing. I prefer the more punkier, New Wave feel of “Talk Me Up,”from the album “Deep In The Heart Of Nowhere” much more Boomtown Rats!
