So I think your’re getting the flavour of this mini-series of posts. The late 80’s trend (by the record companies) for a remake of an old hit to boost sells for a “Best Of” compilation. A tried and tested formula used today.
Bananarama (Keren Woodward ,Sarah Dallin and their friend Siobhan Fahey). were transformed into boyish, dungaree wearing mates of the Fun Boy Three to a trio of long haired, vamps thanks to the involvement of PWL and their Hit Factory. From slightly indie and quirky to one of the biggest all girl acts of the 80’s.
So Cruel Summer get’s an urban rework by the Blacksmith team, new Jack Swing in the Janet Jackson vein.
A remix of their cover of Shocking Blues “Venus” by Phil Harding and Ian Curnow. Cutting edge House grooves with acid overtones, very nice. Finally there is a cheesy House mix of “I Heard A Rumour” by Freddie Bastone is with “Strings For Life” making an appearance being shoehorned in there.
