Iggy Pop – Cold Metal (US Promo 12″)

More mainstream but probably forgotten by many. The lead track from the 1988 album, “Instinct” Adopting a heavy metal style the “Rock Mix” does what is says on the tin with guitars from ex-Sex Pistol Steve Jones and Andy McCoy from Hanoi Rocks. Produced by Bill Laswell and remixed by Andy Wallace (Aerosmith, Run DMC). “Tuff Baby” borrows a Rolling Stone riff (Under Cover Of The Night) and I prefer this to the A-side with those distinct lyrics and some excellent guitar solos. I love the spoken part on the dub version of this, suitably weird from Iggy. In fact a nice couple of Dub Mixes (I’m easily pleased!)

  1. I love the instinct-album, especially lowdown and cold metal. love jones’ guitar, too. he did two fine mainstream hard rock albums, I preferred to listen to, when I was crossing the states by car from east to west and back.
