Citizen King – Better Days (And The Bottom Drops Out) (US 12″)

From 1999! (that’s near to the limits of the blog!) and this funky hip hop from Citizen King (that had Matt Simms in who later released stuff as Mount Sims) Funky and dope beats. The “Idiot Savant” (by Roger Joseph Manning Jr and Tony Hoffer) really brings out the laidback grooves backing it with a quicker backbeat and adding acid squelches and spiky synths. The “McMonkey And Fries Remix” is short and experimental, cutting up the lyrics. The funky (with extra coughing)”Mario Caldato Jr. Remix” has extra instruments overdubbed by Stuart Wylen (flute and piano) Additional track “Checkout Line” is a little gem, produced by female Japanese duo, Cibo Matto, loungecore meets Beck. Cheers Mike!
