Intastella – Dream Some Paradise (12″)

A debut on this blog for Manchester favourites, Intastella. Emerging from the ashes of funk outfit , Laugh and fronted by Stella Grundy they comprised of Martin Wright, (guitar) Martin Mittler (bass and ex-Hypnotone) and Spencer Birtwistle  (drums and ex-Bodines and The Fall) . They were the classic indie crossover band producing psychedelic, dream pop much akin to One Dove, Saint Etienne, Curve, Dubstar and Ruby and like the Happy Mondays with Bez ,had a member (“Little Anthony”) whose responsibilities were solely dancing onstage. Produced with A Certain Ratio’s main man, Martin Moscrop and engineered by Liam Mullen (with John Pennington) this was “post-baggy” dance and their debut release. “Some Dreams” is an more ambient, trip hop version of the title track. “Paradise” is a meatier mix of the title track with some nice, swirling organ. “It Will End When It’s Over” is an instrumental track of breaks and beats with some throbbing synth.
