MC 900 Ft Jesus ‎– Killer Inside Me (12″)

You wait for one Jesus and another one comes along straight after..

Going a little bit more obscure and hoping to open up a few ears to something that some of you might have missed at the time. MC 900 Ft Jesus (a.k.a. Mark Griffin) was big mates with Jack Dangers and Consolidated and was signed to, my label of choice at the time , Nettwerk. Apparently he got his name from an Oral Roberts sermon in which Roberts claimed that he had a vision where a 900 foot Jesus told him to build a hospital.  I bought “Chasing Elevators” (his last release) on shiny disc when it came out and had come across him on various Nettwerk samplers, I still need to build up a bit of collection. This was hip hop with a more alternative slant, slightly different. So you get well-observed lyrics about the American psyche and funky hip hop. Two mixes by Meat Beat Manifesto (Dangers and Marc Pistel) layers the beats and funks it up to the max. The Manifestation #2 is leaves out the rap but the scratches and funky groove remain. On the flip their is the more conventional, longer version this time produced by Griffin and Rick Rooney with added horn section. Additionally, you get a dub version of an older track, “Adventures In Failure” very, very sparse and very trippy.
