We are now going to be in the 90’s for at least the rest of the month. Sorry nostalgic 80’s fans, although I’ll be doing a load of re-ups over the next few days to mix it up a bit.
A 4 track E.P. from the much overlooked The Blue Aeroplanes from 1990 starts us off. Containing a couple of covers and an acoustic version of the title track from their album. Recorded in L.A. and self produced this see’s the band getting the full, trans Atlantic vibe. Lots of guitar-age as you’d expect. Engineered and mixed by Jeff Lord-Age giving it that American sheen. This was a left over track from the album, jaunty and pre Brit-Pop. I really like his Mark E Smith vocal delivery. The acoustic version with almost spoken vocals is a great, alternative take.
The 2 covers are a heavier jam along of Lou Reed’s “Sweet Jane” and the lively “You’re Going To Need Somebody” by Richard Thompson.
