The Mighty Lemon Drops ‎– Beautiful Shame (12″)

Wolverhampton’s finest, The Mighty Lemon Drops, jangle around.”Beautiful Shame” is a bit of a forgotten indie anthem with Smiths undertones. Jollying and lightening things up from their previous darker sound, this is from the album “Laughter” and some critics even compared the new sound to the Stone Roses debut. Other tracks include my pick of the bunch, “Forever Home At Heart” at bit more driven and edgy.  “At Midnight” builds and builds, borrowing the guitar riff from Blondie’s “Heart Of Glass” and definitely crosses into Roses territory. The classic “Like An Angel” erupts nicely in a Doors style and goes back to their Echo And The Bunnymen influences. Both tracks were recorded at Bath Moles Club in August 1989.
