Figures On The Beach – No Stars (US 12″)

Another year and another release from Detroit’s  Figures On The Beach, this was even given a promo vid. Produced again by Ivan Ivan but engineered by Alan Moulder, a quick, lightweight synthpop that is quite sugary sweet compared to the early stuff; with strummed guitar and a catchy chorus, suppose they needed to please Sire Records. A definite Roxy Music vibe going on. B-side is the aptly repetitive “Eternal Repetition” which see’s the guitar shredding along with the hypnotic synth backing that builds and builds and builds.

  1. Thanks for sharing FOAB!!! Just wondering if you’ve ever come across their cassette-only release back in the early 80’s titled “Paradise and other 4-letter words”. The A-side had a bunch of album versions of their early work, and the b-side was all remixes of the same tracks. It was an awesome cassette, which I’ve unfortunately lost over the years and never had the change to digitise before I lost it. Have you ever seen it?

    Thank you!!

    1. No, but I’ll keep a look out for it, thank you for the thank you.

    2. I have 2 copies of the cassette you mentioned & their Mini LP (Vinyl). If Interested I’ll work on ripping them. Let Me Know ?

      1. Always welcome, it’ll make someone very happy 😉

    3. Like I mentioned before I do have this cassette. The only thing I can say is everything on this cassette with an exception to maybe one remix (I’m not sure about yet) & Mini LP (still looking for and I definitely have) are already on here.
Anyway, I’ll be using my very nice dual Denon cassette deck to rip the cassette for you (hang tight!!). Unless you would rather wait for the Mini LP to be sent over to djjedredy?
This will then complete everything on the Cassette (paradise and other four letter words). Either way Ill do it no problem. Just thought I would let you know about the track listing.

      1. Go ahead Mike! Btw the stuff you sent over is brilliant; very, very impressed. Into the 90’s for a few weeks now so I’ll keep it ready to launch.

      2. Thanks Mike B!! You don’t know how long I’ve tried to re-locate that cassette and have digital copies of those songs!! Can’t tell you enough how grateful I would be to have a copy of them!! 🙂 THANK YOU!!!

  2. Ok, thanks! Tried to be selective. Wait until you see what I have lined up in my next batch of rips. One vinyl version I had no idea about was another remix of art of noise’s peter gunn (the twang mix). Went through 4 people on discogs to get at least one copy. The others had it listed as the extended mix and others had bad copies of it. Anyway just arrived yesterday. One of many more goodies to come…!!!
