The Associates – Waiting For The Loveboat (12″)

A Martin Rushent produced this Associates track that was a bit of a comeback single and saw  Billy Mackenzie go it alone after parting ways with Alan Rankine.( This was actually co-written with Rankine but was agreed that Billy could use it as part of the “divorce” settlement) A electro disco track with a bubbling sequenced bassline , some rocky guitars and ,of course, lead saxophone. Rushent pulls out all the stops on this epic, eight midnight long 12″ version. The “Peel Version” is a lot slower, more electronic and sounds like old Associates with lots going on in the background, a great contrast. “Schampout” is very electronic with Mackenzie voice sitting, operatically, on top driving on and on. This is an extended track from the album, “Perhaps.”
