Silent Running – Emotional Warfare (US 12″)

As it’s nearly the end of St.Patrick’s Day, I hope my Irish friends have had a good ‘un. So here is the obligatory Irish band post and still keeping it Pre 1985.

From Wiki “Silent Running are an Northern Irish rock band, who emerged from the Belfast punk scene and were originally called The Setz before changing musical direction in 1982. The original band members were Richard Collett (bass), Peter Gamble (vocals), Tony Scott (guitars) and Ian Gault (drums). Prior to signing to EMI the band recruited George Beavis on keyboards.”

So this was from the debut album on the major EMI label and Mike got hold of the US 12″ (I was quite a fan at the time so I’ll have to dig out the stuff I’ve got, the album and few twelves) Top notch production from Pete Walsh and an ever so slighlty (well quite a lot actually!) Simple Minds sound. Still like the keyboards and general prog rock elements. Album track, “Home Is Where The Heart Is,” is here too as a bit of a taster being the opening track of the album. Camp, but still love it.

  1. Picked this puppy up in Hollyweird (2 Months Ago)(Actually a little thrashed – for US$2). I just knew by looking at it I had to buy it regardless of condition !!

Had no idea they would sound like this and loved them!! So I just went ahead and hunted on the Net and actually found their 3 albums and DL’d them.

Then I went ahead and ordered a couple more 12”s from discogs the other one just arrived today.

They are (Just so we do not cross paths) are:- Silent Running – Young Hearts (12″) and Silent Running – No Faith Is Blind (12″). Can’t wait to listen to these 12ers !!!
