Marc And The Mambas – Black Heart (12″)

marcnmFrom 1983 and Marc Almond’s first project since leaving Soft Cell. Drum Machine led Gypsy Punk with a Young Flood in the studio. Off the album “Torment and Torreros” but the 12″ has different verses. Farfisa organ, flute and chamber strings,

B-side “Your Aura” has more conventional instrumentation  even The The’s Matt Johnson guests on vocals and it has sultry saxophone and piano. A classic bit of New Wave with a sample of a film who’s name escapes me at the end.

“Mamba” goes all Spanish , all castanets and guitar and sparse production (Damn the vinyl, oh for a better copy!) Builds up to a string and guitar duel off climax a 12 minute epic!

(Not the best vinyl I’ve had to rip, please excuse the crackles! (“Your Aura” especially) It is a rare-ish piece of vinyl and has obviously been well loved)
