William Michael Albert Broad (originally from Middlesex) had been an adopted American for a good few years when he released this in 1990. I can’t deny his voice is superb on this, I had to make sure it wasn’t Simple Minds playing in their pomp. A power ballad from the album “A Charmed Life” (the album he wrote while recovering from a motorbike accident) and finds Idol doing sensitive.
A well put together 12″ with three added tracks. I like the funky “Mark Of Caine” with the spoken parts that really takes off towards the end. Another album track in the form of the organ swirling, “The Loveless” harks back to classic Idol, ramp up that Stratocaster!
The highlight of the package is quite electronic mix of “Flesh For Fantasy” going all hip-hop. Remixers Audio Deluxe, Colin Hudd (tour DJ with U2) and Paul Borg give it a stripped down, contemporay vibe with synths (nearly) replacing the guitars!
