The Hood / Jumpin’ Jesus ‎– Salvation! (12″)

salvationcovA rare Factory release (FAC 182 for the anoraks out there) from 1987 that promoted the film “Salvation!” all about TV Evangelism which was rife with scandals at the time, Jimmy Swaggart anyone? This track was by American Club DJ/Promoter John Hood. Very New Jack Swing beats with a huge, phat basslines and a some weird, off kilter vocals, definitely built for the New York Clubs. Arthur Baker was also involved in B-side “You Can’t Blackmail Jesus” although it’s a slice of American country tinged rock sung by Canadian actor, Stephen McHattie Smith ! The “NitroMix” starts off like something Leftfield would be proud of, just a shame the drums sound a bit dated, however it is nice and dubbed out thanks to the remix skills of a young Junior Vasquez !
