A late Easter gift to all my readers from the Mario and Luigi of electronic music.
A double slice of Yello from the forgotten track, “Squeeze Please” from the 1999 album , “Motion Picture” A flirt with the dancefloor creating some pumping house tracks. The two 4-to-the-floor mixes by German DJ collective, “Wackside” use only the vocals and create a hypnotic groove, especially the dub mix. Oliver Moldan’s mixes are far deeper, sounding a bit like the “Race” in places, good use of the sampled horns but the vocals are deliberately muddy and hidden in the mix at the start. The dub goes into deep, space techno.
In complete contrast we get a jazzy mix by German ensemble De-Phazz with overdubbed trombone from Otto Engelhardt. Nice! The original is here too in all it’s Mambo glory. The best mix is by “Sounds Of Life” , keeping most of the original with a funky beat giving it a disco work over. All recorded from pristine vinyl !!
