Sting – Russians (12″)

stinger So the Cold War produced a few war-worrying songs, off the top of my head I can think of Ultravox’s “Dancing With Tears In My Eyes” springs to mind.

From 1985 and off his debut album, this is Sting doing a bit of a Howard Jones, lots of synths providing a the gloom.

Based on the piece “Romance” from “Lieutenant Kije” suite by classical composer, Prokofiev. It spells out a simple, powerful message, “Think Before You Press The Button”. B-sides include a traditional medieval piece, the song itself is based on a 13th-Century Basque carol, translated in the 1800s. Lots of multi-tracked vocals. “Burn For You” was recorded live at the Mogador Theatre in Paris, from May 1985, like a jazzy Peter Gabriel, just reminds of how good a voice he has!
