From 1984 and a bit of The Alarm , a debut for this blog. Quite an apt song with the Scottish Independence thing going on this week. The sleeve omitted anything about it being a 12″ Mix on the label but as a pleasant surprise it delivers in a true bombastic way by Adam Shacklock, obviously having an eye on the American market, it had the meaty sound that KROQ loved and is quite electronic.
“Here we are in times of recession
The cuts are like a stab in the back
To the monetary sound the world goes around
Unrest on every tongue in the land”
They had strong connections with U2, touring together and even Bono joined them on stage at one point. This originally did not make an appearance on any albums The Stephen King novel inspired , “The Stand” appears here in the full version and the more familiar, early sound by producer Mick Glossop with full harmonica and Spear Of Destiny leanings. There is also a folk song from Welsh Poet, Idris Davies, “The Bells Of Rhymney”, they were very proud of their Welsh roots. The Byrds also covered this same poem.
Mike Peters , is a great survivor and should be made a Saint.
