Robert Fripp – Network (Vinyl Mini-Album)

Image

From 1985 and a 4 track compilation album featuring retouched tracks from 1976-8. Guest vocalists include; Daryl Hall, Peter Gabriel and David Byrne. We get variety from the inventor of the sound that is Frippertronics.

“North Star” sung by Mister Hall, a heartfelt amazing singer with Phil Collins drumming with feeling (on brushes?) and Eno on atmospherics. Compared to King Crimson’s  “Matte Kudasai”, it makes a nice start to this varied collection. “Here Comes The Flood” emerges after a brief, incidental interlude. The ultimate version in my opinion with the stripped back piano and atmospherics, mesmerizing with Gabriel in fine voice, very poignant.

“God Save The King” relives the era of The League Of Gentlemen (the new name for King Crimson)  and is a prog rock instrumental of note, with added extra Fripp. Finally, “Under Heavy Manners” with the weirdest lyrics by David Byrne on a funky, improv trip.

  1. I’m a big fan of Robert Fripp, and Here Comes The Flood sung by Peter Gabriel – please could you reupload this when you can? Thank you!

      1. Fantastic – that’s the version I was after – had it on cassette many years ago!
